Balestrate, dark in Piazza Duomo before lighting Christmas tree: two women fall and end up in hospital

Two women were injured during the lighting of the Christmas tree in the square in Balestrate, a coastal town in the province of Palermo. To create the atmosphere just before lighting the tree, the lights in Piazza Duomo were turned off. The two women, aged 54 and 78, were descending the steps of the church. In the darkness, they did not see the steps and fell. They were assisted by emergency medical personnel and transported to the emergency room in Partinico. One of the two is in more serious condition.
