Autumn 2024 Zagara: nurserymen and exhibitors return to Palermo Botanical Garden
Palermo is getting ready to celebrate the twenty-seventh edition of Zagara d’Autunno, the highly anticipated event that brings together plant and floriculture enthusiasts. From October 25th to 27th, the streets of via Lincoln will be transformed into a vibrant green market, with about sixty nurserymen and exhibitors ready to showcase their botanical wonders.
The event will take place in the historical spaces of the Botanical Garden, including the monumental area around the Gymnasium and the splendid Serra Carolina, recently restored. “Thanks to maintenance work, it will be possible to explore Linneo’s quarters, with their historical walkways and renewed fountains,” said Simua’s president, Prof. Michelangelo Gruttadauria.
Among the new features of this year, an extraordinary donation from the French fashion house Hermès, which has enriched the garden with specimens of Macrozamia moorei and Jubaea chilensis. The director of the Garden, Rosario Schicchi, highlighted the uniqueness of the coffee plantation en plein air, with 25 Coffea arabica plants.
The theme of this edition will be dedicated to grains, and the program also includes activities for children, with green workshops and itineraries in the tropical garden Zagara Kids, which will be active on Saturday and Sunday.
The opening tomorrow (Friday, October 25) at 12 p.m. with an exhibition on the biodiversity of cereals, followed by a display of tropical orchids. Among the events scheduled, a photographic exhibition celebrating the contribution of women in the Sicilian agricultural sector and the presentation of the book.
On Saturday 26, activities will resume at 10 a.m. in the Lanza room, with the round table titled Being gardeners, plant cultivation and climate change, while at 11:30 a guided tour with a demonstrative workshop. On Sunday, the last day, the theme of tropical orchids in Southern gardens will be addressed.
