Arrest of 5 members of a baby gang for beatings and robberies in Palermo

The carabinieri of the Palermo-Piazza Marina station arrested 5 very young residents of Palermo for robbery and attempted robbery: a nineteen-year-old and four minors, including two girls. The military, following a report from the operations center, intervened in broad daylight in the central Via Maqueda, where a robbery of two tourists had been reported. The immediate searches, conducted together with the colleagues of the mobile unit, led to the identification of the five suspects who, shortly before, in Via Divisi, had violently attacked a couple of septuagenarians in an attempt to steal their personal belongings, but without succeeding due to the victims’ tenacious resistance; subsequently, and at a short distance, the five had surrounded and beaten – up to causing a nasal septum fracture – a twenty-year-old Law student, robbing him of his cell phone and eyeglasses. The three victims, taken to the police station, filed a complaint and unequivocally identified their attackers; their statements were supported by the examination of the images from the surveillance cameras on site. The arrests were validated and the four minors, at the request of the prosecutor, were remanded in custody. The student victim of the robbery was treated at the Civil Hospital of Palermo and discharged with a prognosis of 30 days.
