Agrigento: Ancient amphora fragments found in mystery bag prompt investigation

The carabinieri of Agrigento, in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Protection unit of Palermo, have seized 60 fragments of Greco-Roman amphorae of underwater origin, which were certainly inside a sunken ship, along with pottery believed to be from the medieval period.
The artifacts – already entrusted to the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage – were found in a plastic bag abandoned on the Cormorano pier of the tourist port of Agrigento. It will be up to the already opened investigation to try to identify who found and appropriated the artifacts.
