Acea Solar’s photovoltaic plant in Licodia Eubea begins production, among largest in Sicily.

The growth of Acea Solar (100% Acea Produzione) in photovoltaics continues with the introduction of the plant built in contrada Grotte Alte, in Licodia Eubea, in the province of Catania. It has an installed capacity of 28 MW and is among the largest in Sicily.

The park, developed and built entirely by Acea Solar, was connected to the high-voltage grid at the nearby Terna substation. The expected production is about 55 GWh/year, able to provide enough energy to meet the annual needs of about 20,000 households, avoiding the emission of 22,000 tons/year of CO2 into the atmosphere compared to an equivalent production from fossil sources.

“The plant – explains Acea in a statement – benefits from remuneration from Terna for participation in the capacity market. The park, which covers an area of almost 60 hectares, was built using the most advanced installation techniques, including the use of bifacial modules and a monoaxial tracking system, aimed at ensuring an increase in production on the same surface.” The project will contribute to the country’s energy transition goals, thanks to the production of renewable energy, as well as to grid stability.
