A solidarity emporium is born in Ragusa: allowing families in need to shop without paying

#Ragusa
A small supermarket called “Emporio Solidale” has been established by the Diocese of Ragusa in Italy to provide assistance to people in need. The supermarket offers a range of essential items including food, personal hygiene products, and household goods. The initiative is being celebrated as part of the second anniversary of Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa’s ordination as bishop. The project is supported by the Ragusa diocesan Caritas and the Arca foundation, with the backing of Enel Cuore, the Enel group’s non-profit organization. The supermarket relies on donations from local businesses and individuals, and access is granted to those referred by local parishes and diocesan services. The aim is to provide a response to poverty by offering a point-based system where individuals can choose the items they need. The initiative emphasizes the importance of autonomy and aims to provide support and dignity to those facing difficult circumstances. The Arca foundation, which is involved in similar projects across Italy, is happy to contribute to the Emporio Solidale in Ragusa to help families access healthy food and integrate into the community.
