31-year-old to be tried with shortened trial for killing mother-in-law

Laura Di Dio, a 31-year-old woman, will be tried for the murder of her mother-in-law, Margherita Margani, with an expedited trial. The decision was made by the judge after requests from Laura’s lawyers. The trial will not be held in Caltanissetta with the ordinary procedure, but in Enna with the expedited one. The victim’s family has also become a civil party in the trial. Laura has been recognized as having a partial mental infirmity. Tension arose in the courtroom when the victim’s lawyers urged the prosecutor to charge Laura with the aggravating circumstance of acting with cruelty, which could lead to a life sentence. The next hearing is scheduled for January 17, 2024.
