Catania, safety violations at workplace: builder reported
The Carabinieri of Catania, together with colleagues from the NIL (Labor Inspection Unit), have carried out checks on three entrepreneurial activities. Irregularities were found in two of them. In particular, at a construction site in the Fortino neighborhood of Catania, the Carabinieri found that the owner, a 39-year-old resident of Gravina di Catania, had not subjected the workers to the required health surveillance. The workers had also not received the necessary training for particularly risky jobs such as masonry. Additionally, it was discovered that the two workers were working “under the table”. The entrepreneur was reported to the judicial authority and the activity was suspended until legal and safety conditions were restored. Further checks were carried out at a metalworking company based in Calatabiano, where it was found that 2 out of 3 workers present were irregular as they had never been officially hired and were therefore working “under the table”.
