Palermo, associations and municipality excluded from case against 31 Brancaccio merchants
The article explains that the Municipality of Palermo, Confcommercio, the Pio La Torre Study Center, and the Antonino Caponnetto association have been excluded from participating as civil parties in the trial against 31 Brancaccio merchants who denied paying protection money. The decision was made by the judge Stefania Brambille due to the tardiness of the request. However, the Addiopizzo committee, the Anti-racket Federation, and the Solidarity Desk were admitted. The Prosecutor’s initial failure to contest the mafia aggravating factor caused the entities and associations to ignore the existence of the trial. Despite later changing their position, the deadline for participation had passed. The excluded parties expressed disappointment due to technicalities, reaffirming their condemnation of extortion, usury, and the mafia. The Mayor, Roberto Lagalla, stated that their offices had not received any communication regarding the mafia aggravation.
