World Kindness Assembly in Palermo, Minister Nordio to attend

Three programmatic documents to be presented to the UN, the EU, and the Italian government “Kindness will change the world” to request the recognition of kindness as a transformative force in the psychosocial field and an indicator of the well-being of member states, closely related to the 17 Global Goals of the UN Agenda 2030. This is the objective of the 11th edition of the World Kindness Assembly, scheduled in Palermo from October 17 to 20 under the title “Kindness will change the world,” promoted and organized with the sponsorship of the presidency of the Sicilian Region. The event will see the participation of, among others, the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and the Secretary of the Presidency of the Chamber of Deputies Carolina Varchi, as well as Italian and international representatives of the Movement from around the world, from Italy to the USA, from Canada to Switzerland, from the UK to India and even to Nigeria, who will engage in debates, meetings, and workshops dedicated to kindness as a social tool.

President Natalia Re and Vice President Marcello Vitaliti will kick off the proceedings on October 18 at the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia in Palermo, with the opening ceremony featuring the singer Daria Biancardi. Various talks will follow within the Sicilia Gentile program, moderated by Elisabetta Migliorelli (Deputy Director of Tg2) and Giuseppe Brindisi (host of Zona Bianca Reti Mediaset) on culture, family, education, communication, environment, health, education, infrastructure, and justice. Among the speakers will be Ugo Piazza (journalist, writer, social media expert), Roberto Gueli (deputy national director of Tgr Rai and president of the Order of Journalists of Sicily), Giorgio Landoni (doctor, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, author, and researcher of the effects of language), Daniela Crimi (headmistress of the Ninni Cassarà Language High School and writer), Giuseppe Lupo (European parliamentarian), Senator Raoul Russo, Agostina Porcaro president of the Edile Fund, Gaetano Tafuri, lawyer expert in administrative law and civil law, public contracts, Antimafia, urban planning, and public transport, Adriana Brusca, European Media Law issues, Giuseppe Ciulla (director of Judicial Offices – Office of Social Services for Minors – Malaspina Complex) and Claudia Caramanna (Attorney General for Minors of Palermo).

The proceedings on the 18th will continue with a session dedicated to international speakers, who will be announced by Sofia Abad from “Talk with Me.” On October 19, the Assembly will continue its work in the Mattarella hall at the Palazzo dei Normanni, and after the institutional greetings of President Gaetano Galvagno, the Councilor for Infrastructure and Mobility of the Sicilian Region, Alessandro Aricò, and Professor Giancarlo Marrone, professor of Semiotics at the University of Palermo and delegate for institutional communication of the University, will speak on the use of language in contemporary society, and Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio.

On the 19th, the One World Values Walk will take place, organized in over 100 countries around the world to celebrate the values of life, with gratitude being a prominent one. Finally, during the four days, Sicilia Gentile will be presented, conceived by the Italian Movement for Kindness, aimed primarily at employees of the public administration.

“We will talk about kindness understood (also) as an antidote to violence, as support in the resolution of conflicts and psychosocial problems, and as an indicator of the well-being of a country, capable of influencing its wealth, therefore also impacting GDP,” says Natalia Re, president of the Italian Kindness Movement. “We will reflect together on how important it is to train and educate in active kindness for the well-being of all: first and foremost, kindness promotes territories, returns identity and awareness to them, and is a tool for recognizing the relationship between man and the environment, understood as a common home, in respect of ecosystems. The promotion of an infrastructural policy is also another act of kindness because living in a context where all types of infrastructure are functioning and functional makes the community in a state of perfect balance and harmony. Furthermore, kindness promotes a harmonious construction of individual identity and, therefore, helps productivity and performance, determining the success of a society. Finally, as our studies show, it can contribute to creating a culture of respect for legality, peaceful coexistence, and justice, capable of limiting the proliferation of crimes and offences. This is not just a word or a gesture, but an antidote to violence. When practiced, kindness has a concrete transformative and generative impact.”
