Gibellina among 5 finalists for Italian capital of contemporary art

“I wish to express my heartfelt support as well as praise for Gibellina’s candidacy as the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art. The fact that the city is among the five finalists fills us with pride and testifies to the cultural appeal of the Island, increasingly committed to the enhancement of its artistic and historical heritage.” This was stated by the regional councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian identity Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, in reference to the city being included among the five finalists for the prestigious title, announced by the Ministry of Culture.

“Gibellina, with its history of rebirth, is a virtuous example of how pain and destruction can be transformed into beauty and redemption, becoming a symbol of a strong cultural identity projected towards the future,” Scarpinato adds. “This achievement is a source of great satisfaction and encourages Sicily to continue along the path of promoting its cultural heritage.”
