42-year-old man from Paceco acquitted for cultivating cannabis for therapeutic purposes

For the first time, the Trapani Court has recognized the non-punishment for therapeutic use of cannabis. After three years of legal process, a 42-year-old man from Paceco has been acquitted. He was accused of cultivating Indian hemp and possession with intent to distribute narcotics, but he was using cannabis for therapeutic purposes. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Gaspare Sammartano, who accepted the defendant’s defense lawyer’s argument. The prosecutor had requested four months of imprisonment and an eight hundred euro fine. The defendant, a gas station owner, married with children, was cultivating cannabis for therapeutic purposes, as demonstrated by his lawyer during the trial. He had abandoned other medications that were dangerous for his health, and found benefit in using cannabis responsibly half an hour before bedtime. He has now been acquitted.
