400+ kg of untraceable fish seized in Ballarò, Palermo
Explain the following article briefly:
Intensified in view of Easter, the Nas checks in Palermo, with inspections also in the activities of the Ballarò area. During the visits to check compliance with hygienic-sanitary conditions and product traceability, two major seizures took place in two fishmongers in the popular market. In the first, the Carabinieri found that 311 kilograms of fish were not correctly traceable: therefore, the safety of the food chain could not be guaranteed, putting at risk those who would have purchased it.
In the second fishmonger, another 105 kilograms of fish were seized: in this case, several irregularities emerged regarding the self-control procedures required by EU regulations. But it doesn’t end here, because the owners of the two activities also received administrative sanctions. The total amount is about ten thousand euros, while the total value of the confiscated products is at least fifteen thousand euros.
Meanwhile, the Nas Carabinieri continue their checks with the aim of protecting consumers’ health ahead of the festive days and the increased influx in restaurants and public places. Inspections have also been intensified in seaside resorts and in areas with a higher presence of tourists.
