24-year-old shepherd caught setting fires in Ciminna: arrested

The police officers of the Ciminna police station, in the province of Palermo, arrested a 24-year-old shepherd for arson. During a territorial control service, the officers noticed smoke rising from a hilly area. Using binoculars, the officers were able to identify the movements of a local shepherd, who was moving around to set fires in multiple spots, eventually igniting a portion of Mediterranean vegetation over 15,000 square meters. The fire was extinguished by the civil protection and the young man was apprehended. The suspect now faces a potential prison sentence of up to 15 years if convicted.
