14 Easter eggs stolen in Fiumefreddo: two arrests

A couple specialized in stealing Easter eggs – he is 70 years old, from Belpasso, she is 33, from Catania – was arrested by the Carabinieri in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia as part of the operation Easter and Easter Monday serene, ordered by the provincial command of the Army throughout the Etna area. The two must answer for aggravated theft in conspiracy.

The investigations began after the report of the theft of Easter eggs worth about 400 euros from the shelves of a supermarket in the town. From the analysis of the images recorded by the store’s surveillance cameras, the Carabinieri noticed the couple who had presented themselves at the supermarket several times always at the same time and, after filling some plastic bags with Easter eggs, had left without passing through the checkout and exiting through a door not equipped with an anti-theft system. The next day, the couple, arriving at the store in a Fiat Panda, was stopped by the Carabinieri after leaving the store with 14 Easter eggs.

The Carabinieri recovered the stolen eggs, worth about 300 euros. By order of the judicial authority, which validated their arrest, the two were placed under house arrest. The stolen goods were returned to the owners of the supermarket.
