Woman found hanged in Fondachello, autopsy not enough to reveal truth: further investigations ordered

Supplementary and complementary exams will be carried out to complete the autopsy, ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office of Catania, and conducted today, on the body of the thirty-eight-year-old woman found hanging three days ago in the bathroom of the vacation home she had rented with her partner in Fondachello, a seaside town of Mascali. Histological and toxicological tests will be performed for a complete and total examination of the cause of death.

The report, prepared by the forensic doctor Cristoforo Pomara, appointed by the deputy prosecutor Fabio Scavone and the substitute Fabio Regolo, should be ready in the coming weeks. The doctor Raffaele Benanti, appointed by lawyer Francesco Marchese, the partner’s legal representative, who is not under investigation but is a party in the investigation, was present at the autopsy as a party expert. Meanwhile, after the forensic examination, the Prosecutor’s Office has signed the authorization for the release of the body, which has been returned to the family.

The woman had a quarrel with the man the night before the discovery of the body, who left the house and, immediately after the discovery, was questioned for several hours as a witness at the carabinieri barracks. The couple has two children. The house was found in order, and no message from the woman was found. At the moment, no hypothesis on the cause of death is excluded, including that of suicide. The carabinieri of the Giarre company and the provincial headquarters of Catania are investigating the case.
