Violence against a minor in Catania, victim and municipality are civil parties

The victim of rape, her boyfriend, the Municipality of Catania, and some anti-violence associations: these are the civil parties admitted to the trial being held, behind closed doors, in Catania against four Egyptians accused of group sexual violence against a thirteen-year-old girl committed on January 30th in the public bathrooms of Villa Bellini in front of her seventeen-year-old boyfriend. The hearing has been adjourned to October 21st. A fifth adult defendant will be tried with an abbreviated procedure.
In the context of the investigations by the Carabinieri, two other non-adult Egyptians are being investigated and detained: for both, the Catania Prosecutor for Minors has requested and obtained immediate judgment from the judge: one has accessed the abbreviated procedure and the other is under trial with the ordinary procedure.
Crucial in the two investigations were the statements of the 13-year-old and her boyfriend who reported the violence and then identified the attackers. Their testimonies were acquired during an evidentiary incident that took place in front of the two judges, district and for minors, and has been included in the records of the two proceedings and will be directly transposed into the files of the different trials.
