Two-year-old child dies in Castellammare del Golfo: city mourns for final farewell.

Today is the day of farewell in Castellammare del Golfo, where the funeral of little Francesco Tartamella is being celebrated. The community is in tears and disbelief for what happened to the child who lost his life at only two years old: he died in a hospital in Palermo after fifteen days of agony, following complications that were allegedly caused by a virus. An autopsy has been performed on the little boy’s body to clarify the causes of death, and the results are awaited.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Castellammare del Golfo, Giuseppe Fausto, has declared a day of mourning for today, Wednesday, February 28. Flags are flying at half-mast and draped in mourning during the funeral: “Our community is deeply shaken by what happened to the child,” he writes. “He was followed and assisted with professionalism and care by the doctors and all the healthcare personnel, and I hope that the Region will further increase the pediatric intensive care beds, which are an important healthcare resource for the treatment of young patients.”

“Interpreting the pain of Castellammare del Golfo,” the mayor continues, “I urge respectful behavior during the funeral. We continue to support the family of little Francesco in this terrible moment of pain.” In these days of immense sorrow, the family of the little boy has meanwhile invited those who wish to pay tribute to him not to donate flowers but to contribute to the fundraising for the needy initiated by the parents.
