Trapani man accused of selling protected turtles online

The forest rangers of the anti-crime nature center in Palermo have reported a 37-year-old man for possession and sale of animal species without the required documentation. From an analysis of online sales sites, the military discovered that the man had put up for sale 19 specimens of Testudo Hermanni (land tortoise) without the necessary documentation and marking systems. Considering that the specimens belong to species protected by the Washington Convention (and therefore cannot be taken from the wild and for which there is a prohibition on possession and sale without the required documentation), the military reported the seller and seized the animals, subsequently entrusting them to a wildlife recovery center in Ficuzza.
