Tourability kicks off: internships for 30 disabled individuals at Mondello and Palermo beach resorts and Plaia in Catania
Explain in brief the following article:
Promoting the work integration of disabled people and facilitating targeted placement: these are also the objectives of Tourability, a project funded by the Sicilian Region and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which, in addition to promoting accessible tourism on the island, offers internship opportunities to 30 people with disabilities.
The recipients of the tender, which expires on May 26, will be selected and then involved in Catania and Palermo in June, July, August, and September in catering, reception, room service, bar, secretarial, assistance to bathers at the beach clubs participating in the project, and other facilities involved in inclusion activities. The Sicilian beach clubs that will be equipped have already been selected: along the Etna Plaia, Lido America, Colonia Don Bosco, Lido le Palme, Lido Polifemo, and Lido Sablè Sale will be made accessible; on the Mondello coastline in Palermo, Lido Sirenetta, Lido Acqua Marina, and the two Lidi dell’Ombelico del Mondo, Mondello Mia.
The selected interns will be trained by the Adult Education Center Cpia Catania 2. They will then be integrated into accessible beach clubs and other locations in Etna and Palermo to work during the summer season of 2024. Adaptations have already begun in tourist locations that, in addition to having reserved parking and equipped toilets according to current regulations for people with disabilities, will be optimized with new anti-slip wooden pine walkways, “sand and street” wheelchairs for beach access, functional beach umbrellas, lounge chairs, essential rescue kits to make summer days more enjoyable, comfortable, and safe even for people with disabilities.
