Threats at stadium entrance, Daspo for four Catania fans
After the Catania-Avellino football match, played on May 21st at the Angelo Massimino stadium and valid for the national phase of Serie C playoffs, the Chief of Police of the city of Catania issued a Daspo (ban from sporting events) against four Sicilian fans. For three of them, the preventive measure was adopted for “the behavior during pre-filtering operations, during which, to avoid control, they threatened security personnel and police officers on public order duty.” One of the three, who had already served two previous Daspo bans, “not only did not have the necessary identification documents to access the stadium, but when asked to deposit a lighter that could not be brought inside, he threw it at the agent trying to convince him.” For this reason, in addition to being reported, the repeat offender was given an eight-year Daspo, with the obligation to report to a Police office before, during, and after Catania’s matches. The measure was validated by the judge on request of the Prosecutor’s Office. The other two fans, in addition to being reported by the Digos of the Police Headquarters, will not be able to access sporting events for two years. For the same period, the fourth fan who, after the match, bypassed the fence, evading security checks and invading the pitch in an attempt to reach the players returning to the locker rooms, will also be banned from sports facilities. The attempt was stopped by the Digos police officers who reported him for invading the pitch.
