Thief steals over 50 cars: Guinness world record holder sentenced to 4 years and 5 months in Trapani
The Judge of the Court of Trapani, Lucia Fontana, has sentenced 35-year-old Giuseppe Di Bella to 4 years and 5 months in prison. The prosecution had originally requested a nine-year sentence, which was reduced to six upon accepting a plea deal. Di Bella gained notoriety in February when he was arrested for over fifty car thefts. He was charged with theft and receiving stolen goods and opted for a plea deal. Only one police officer, the latest victim of Di Bella, acted as a civil party in the trial. The judge also banned Di Bella from public office for 5 years, ordered him to pay restitution to the civil party, and to cover legal expenses. Surveillance footage was key in Di Bella’s conviction, despite his attempts to avoid detection. Stolen items were found at his home.
