An incident occurred on the Palermo-Mazara del Vallo highway, inside the Isola delle Femmine tunnel, towards the city. One person was injured, but not seriously, and was taken to the hospital for examination. The tunnel was also damaged.
The rescuers faced difficulties in moving the vehicle, causing heavy traffic congestion on both the A29 highway and the Statale 113 road. Many drivers tried to bypass the blockage by diverting towards Sferracavallo, resulting in long queues. The presence of two municipal police officers to manage the situation was not enough to alleviate the inconvenience.
For several hours, many people were trapped in both directions of the road – on one side due to the accident and on the other side due to curious onlookers trying to understand what had happened.
