The wildfires in Palermo are a single criminal plan, with 6,000 hectares of land burned around the city.

The green areas surrounding Palermo have been burned, an action carried out by professionals as part of a criminal plan by a widespread organization. This is stated by the WWF, which, in collaboration with the Aeroclub of Palermo-Boccadifalco, filmed and photographed the burned areas from above at the end of July, making the images public. “We limited ourselves to flying over the hills of the Conca d’Oro. Only Monte Pellegrino, so to speak, was saved. Everything else went up in smoke,” says the WWF of northwestern Sicily. “It is an irreparable scar on the city of Palermo. Seven distinct areas were set on fire, covering a total area of 6,070 hectares: Gallo 594 ha, Billiemi 1,789 ha, Cuccio Portella S. Anna 1,203 ha, Caputo Castellaccio 499 ha, Moarda 461 ha, Orecchiuta 955 ha, Grifone 569 ha.”
“The coincidence of ignition times in the evening hours, the choice of days with particularly favorable environmental conditions for the spread of fires, and the perfect knowledge of the locations suggest a widespread organization by professionals, a term that unfortunately we can consider appropriate in the specificity of the case, in our Sicilian context,” says the environmentalist association.
The WWF speaks of “a gray area of legal and illegal activities, of legitimate and illegitimate interests, that continues to influence the life of the territory and continues to attack nature. A band of criminals continues to send messages. Who is the interlocutor and what do they have to say? It is time for the judiciary, law enforcement, politics, and all institutions, which in recent years have ignored or underestimated the problem, to intervene to protect the citizens and stop the destruction of the environmental assets of our Sicilian territory.”
