Syracusan woman shot in Belize. Husband: “No tears can stop the pain”

Laura Fiorito, a 43-year-old woman from Syracuse, is one of the victims of a murder that took place in Belmopan, Belize, Central America. She was on vacation with her husband and two children, aged 7 and 11. The murder occurred last Tuesday, but the news was only made public a few hours ago.

According to initial reports, the owner of a resort, an American-Haitian man, allegedly fired shots at the Market day, the central market where the family, who lives in the Netherlands, was located. The man, who has been arrested, had reportedly hosted the family of Sicilian origins at his establishment. Also killed in the tragedy was an 8-year-old girl of Mexican descent.

It is reported that the perpetrator had a conversation with the family before pulling out a 9mm pistol and opening fire.

Following the news of the tragedy, many people on social media expressed their support for the family. Some Dutch friends of Laura and her husband Salvo have started an online fundraiser to help cover the significant costs of repatriating her body to Italy.

In a statement on social media, Salvo, Laura’s husband, expressed his deep sorrow at her loss, describing her as the best wife and mother, and sharing memories of their life together. Friends also shared tributes to Laura, remembering her infectious smile and humor.
