Stromboli hit by heavy rain, giant rock falls: disaster narrowly avoided. Mayor requests state of emergency

The mayor Riccardo Gullo has requested the state of emergency from the Region after the disaster caused by the bomb of water in Stromboli and Ginostra. An extraordinary intervention is also needed for all the material (boulders, debris, mud) that came down from the increasingly defenseless mountain after the fire caused by the TV show, which brought the two locations to their knees.

After half a day, the breakdown of the power plant in Ginostra was repaired. Enel technicians arrived with the coast guard’s motorboat and once again managed to fix the system. Meanwhile, damages are being assessed in Ginostra, with the village of Stromboli literally brought to its knees by the morning’s downpour.

Stromboli is once again under red alert. A giant boulder even fell, which could have caused a tragedy in the island’s alleys. Fortunately, there were no consequences for the residents and tourists still present, promptly alerted by the councilor Carolina Barnao not to leave their homes.

The rescue operation with the Civil Protection and volunteers has been activated on the island to overcome this new disaster in the alleys, houses, shops, and terraces, some of which are now submerged in mud along with a motoape.

Controversies continue to arise over the lack of safety measures on the island, as special permits are needed to start the works. Mayor Riccardo Gullo reiterated that “it is not possible to wait for up to three years with this state of emergency…”
