Statute of limitations for former mayors, councilors, and executives of Monreale City.

The judges of the Court of Auditors have declared the request for compensation of former mayors, councilors, and officials of the Municipality of Monreale for about 10 million euros prescribed. The prosecution has sued Salvatore Gullo, Carlo Gambino, Stefano Gorgone, Antonio Pantuso, Maria Rita Petrotta, Fabio Sciortino, Gaetano Sirchia, Antonino Maria Sciacchitano, Giuseppe Bono, Giovanni Brusca, Claudio Burgio, Pietro Capizzi, Vittorio Di Salvo, Bartolomeo Gelsomino, Filippo Giurintano, Marco Intravaia, Massimiliano Lo Biondo, Giuseppe Lo Coco, Giuseppe Magnolia, Girolamo Mondello, Domenico Palma, Giovanni Schimmenti, Fortunata Segreto, Angelo Venturella, Salvatore Zuccaro, Fabrizio Dell’Acqua, Elena Conti, Antonino Fundarò, Giuseppe Leto, Salvatore Billetta, Vincenzo Cassarà, Roberto Oddo, Gaetano Scalici, Marcello Barbaro, Giovanni Carlotta. The accounting magistrates contest the recipients a story dating back to 2005, when the administration in charge was that of Toti Gullo. That year, on April 20, the Municipality signed a lease-back contract with Carige, that is, a financial relocation, selling in a sort of leasing the property in via Biagio Giordano, the current headquarters of the Monreale carabinieri barracks, while simultaneously retaining possession of the property ceded. Thanks to that operation, the Municipality, which then had tight cash reserves and needed immediate liquidity, obtained a sum of 8,553,565.70 euros, to be repaid with an advance fee of 1,454,106.17 euros and 39 semi-annual fees of 203,902.78 euros each, plus VAT. The payment, still ongoing, will last until 2026, when the Municipality will have to pay a final installment of about 4 million. The judges have determined that the damage is now prescribed. The administrators and councilors were defended by lawyers Lucia di Salvo, Alberto Marolda, Sabina Raimondi, Andrea Treppiedi, Giuseppe Mammina, Girolamo Rubino, Rosario De Marco Capizzi, Domenico Pitruzzella, Alfredo Geraci, Giancarlo Geraci, Carlo Comandé, Andrea Ciulla, Pietro Alosi, Giovanni Immordino.
