Spillage of oil at the Port of Trapani: Lady Farida’s commander under trial.

The Egyptian commander of the merchant ship “Lady Farida” has been indicted for polluting the port of Trapani. The Coast Guard’s investigation blamed the commander for the massive discharge of hydrocarbons into the port’s waters. The preliminary hearing has been scheduled, and the Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a trial. The incident occurred in May 2022 when diesel fuel was reported in the port, and it was later discovered that the ship was responsible. The pollution caused significant damage to ships and port facilities. The sudden change in weather conditions could have carried the pollutants towards the natural reserve of the Saline di Trapani e Paceco.
