The Budget Committee of the Sicilian Regional Assembly has approved a provision in the stability decree (article 17) allocating 271.3 million euros to the forestry sector, specifically for wildfire prevention measures. The region will be able to acquire a fleet of aircraft by working with private companies or entering into an agreement with the national Civil Protection for the use of aircraft from other state administrations. Additional heavy aircraft, such as Super Puma helicopters, will be utilized alongside the current fleet of 10 helicopters. The agreement with the fire department will also be extended, both in terms of duration and the number of teams available. Furthermore, the agreement with the Carabinieri for the deployment of an Nh500 helicopter will be renewed.
