Shooting in the heart of Messina: two arrests for attempted murder

An man was injured in the center of Messina by gunshots fired in the back of Piazza Duomo. The shooting, which occurred on the night between May 18 and 19 in one of the clubs in the nightlife district of Messina, was investigated by the local police department, who identified and arrested the alleged perpetrators. The night of the shooting, police officers intervened at the university hospital, where a young man of about 20 years old had arrived with blood-soaked clothes, accompanied by another young man. The wound was due to gunshots, and from the initial information gathered by the officers, the shots had occurred in via Loggia dei Mercanti, behind the Duomo.

The Homicide section of the local police department arrived at the scene of the shooting, where they obtained video footage from both internal and external cameras of the clubs in via Loggia dei Mercanti. The investigators reconstructed the attack and identified the alleged authors of the attempted murder, one of whom had previous criminal records for various offenses.

After informing the judicial authority, the police department then placed the alleged perpetrators under arrest for the offenses of attempted murder, illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, in collusion – one of whom was a minor.

The Judge at the Messina Tribunal applied the precautionary measure of house arrest for one of the suspects; whereas the Judge at the Juvenile Tribunal ordered pre-trial detention in prison.
