Santacolomba’s artwork presents mafia victims’ statuettes in Corleone

Giovanni Santacolomba, originally from Corleone and now living in Bisacquino, is a sculptor who creates beautiful statuettes with a caricatural vein, molding clay and adding colors. He began as a hobby in his youth and it became a serious, almost professional, endeavor in adulthood. He has created hundreds of subjects, from local daily life, cinema, theater, and especially sports, with a focus on the red and black colors of his passion for Milan. He has also dedicated himself to the territory, reconstructing pieces of Corleone and Bisacquino with impressive precision. He is now tackling one of the most complex and serious topics in Sicily: the mafia and its victims from the 1970s onwards. His collection of statuettes showcases politicians, priests, journalists, and law enforcement who fought and died to defeat the mafia. The work will be presented at the Anti-Mafia Documentation Center in Corleone, with the participation of the author, the mayor, and the vice president. The official presentation will be made by a Sicilian journalist deeply affected by the tragedy: Giulio Francese, the son of Mario, one of the twelve portraits.
