What is the Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro

The Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro in Sicily is the first oriented nature reserve of the Sicily region created in 1981: a protected natural area of about 1700 hectares that extends between San Vito Lo Capo and Castellammare del Golfo in the province of Trapani.
The Reserve is open every day from 7.00 am to 7.30 pm, except on weather alert days.

Where is the Zingaro Nature Reserve?

The Reserve has two entrances.
One is located in the north about 12 km from San Vito Lo Capo.
The other to the south about 1 km from Scopello.
The most convenient is the South one where there is also a large parking lot.

Useful information

Pets are not allowed inside the Zingaro Nature Reserve.
It is recommended:
a good pair of comfortable walking shoes.
a water reservoir suitable for the season.

You can do mostly hiking, in fact there are 3 hiking trails of various difficulty.

The coastal path

It is the easiest, the least demanding and it is about 7 km long that you cover in 2 hours.
You can also visit all the coves that meet in the path and the landscape that dominates is that of the low scrub, thyme and broom, ash and almond trees, carobs and disa in an unspoilt nature adjacent to you.
The least crowded period is Spring and Autumn.
The coastal path is fascinating in its facet of contrasting colors.
Scattered throughout the Reserve are also equipped areas where to stop.

The path of the middle coast

The route of half coast, is of average difficulty with a duration of about 4 hours and a journey of 8.5 km, is the most panoramic and will allow you to walk the paths leading to the upper part of its territory. This route leads to Borgo Cusenza and Contrada Sughero.
Here are the huts for the bivouac. You can ask permission to the Reserve, in the period from October to May. In spring the paths have bloomed with enchanting species of orchids.
Deviations are marked on the fences.

The high path

The high path is certainly the most difficult.
We recommend it only to hikers and trekking experts. Route of 17 km to cover in about 7 hours passing by Monte Passo del Lupo ,Monte Speziale, and Monte Scardina.
From the top of these mountains, the visitor can admire in the distance the views that open towards the sea and be enchanted by its breathtaking colors.
