Restoration work to remove water stagnation and moss at Villa Romana del Casale underway

The urgent intervention to eliminate water stagnation and moss formation in the peristyle of the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina has been started. This was stated by the Sicilian Region. The Superintendent for Cultural Heritage of Enna has entrusted and delivered the urgent maintenance works for the roof and uncovered surface of the portico, where there are no mosaics but a pavement created during previous interventions completed in 2012. The works involve improving the system for collecting, conveying, and draining rainwater on the roofs and in the courtyard. Also planned is the installation of safety lines for those working on the roofs of this part of the archaeological complex, as well as the restoration of the anti-pigeon system in some damaged areas. The renovation project was developed by the Superintendent of Enna, following the indication of the general manager of the regional department of Cultural Heritage. The works are being carried out by the company Esse I – Servizi industriali Srl of Regalbuto (Enna), for a contractual amount of 186 thousand euros, with a discount of 23.6 percent on the base price. The intervention must be completed within two months.
