Ramacca murder case: Boyfriend Costel Balan and friend indicted for killing Vera Schiopu
The judge of Caltagirone has indicted Costel Balan, a 34-year-old Romanian man, and his compatriot Gheorghe Ciprian Apetrei, aged 35, for the murder of 25-year-old Moldovan Vera Schiopu. The two, who were arrested by the carabinieri, are accused of staging the woman’s suicide, as she was found hanged on August 19, 2022, in a farmhouse in contrada Sferro between Ramacca and Paternò. The first hearing of the trial will be held in November before the Court of Assizes in Catania. The defendants, represented by lawyers Alessandro and Michela Lapertosa, have always claimed their innocence.
Vera Schiopu’s lifeless body was found in the country house where she lived: her partner reported her death, claiming that the woman had hanged herself. A version that never convinced investigators. Many inconsistencies emerged from the beginning of the investigation.
