Palermo: Two police officers accused of drug trafficking and corruption reach plea deal

Two mobile team officers in Palermo, Fabrizio Spedale and Salvatore Graziano, and the drug dealer, Ignazio Carollo, have pleaded guilty to various charges of corruption and drug trafficking and were all sent to prison last October. The judge Ermelinda Marfia has accepted the agreed upon sentences between the defendants and the prosecutor: Spedale will serve 4 years and 8 months, Graziano, the deputy head of the seizures warehouse, 4 years and 4 months, and Carollo 4 years and 2 months. The two police officers are currently under house arrest.

The relationships between the officers and the drug dealer emerged from a series of wiretaps within an investigation conducted by the same mobile team, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Paolo Guido and the substitute Andrea Fusco.

According to the prosecutor, the two police officers, by falsifying a series of documents, managed to take possession of at least 25 kilos of “weed” that, seized as part of anti-drug investigations, should have been destroyed instead.
