Palermo teacher suspends after giving tranquilizers to disabled student, who is now hospitalized.

A 48-year-old support teacher was found in a bathroom with a 9-year-old disabled child in a school in downtown Palermo. Preliminary investigations suggest that she gave tranquilizers to the child without any medical prescription. The student was assisted by emergency medical services and taken to the Children’s Hospital, where he is now hospitalized in the Neuropsychiatry department. The incident occurred last Friday. The school received an email reporting strange behavior by the teacher, including allegations of slapping the child. The principal has been questioned by the police. The school administrator has already suspended the support teacher temporarily.
