Palermo rejects Reset workers’ appeal: they will not be transferred to Rap (translated from Italian)

The 40 employees of Reset, a company owned by the Municipality of Palermo on the brink of bankruptcy, will not be transferred to Rap, the waste collection company. Despite the fact that Rap needs new staff and has announced a competition for 300 new employees, the transfer of about 90 Reset employees has been blocked. As a result, 40 employees have turned to the labor court. The court, presided over by Fabio Civiletti, rejected the workers’ appeal against Rap, stating that there is no serious harm since the employees are working and receiving a salary. However, the employees at Reset only receive a part-time salary of 600 euros, as the company can no longer guarantee full-time employment. The lawyer representing the Reset employees argues that Rap spends millions of euros each year to outsource services due to a lack of staff, but cannot find the resources to hire these workers. Additionally, once the competition for the 300 positions is completed, the Reset workers would be left out. The president of Rap, Giuseppe Todaro, states that they must respect the court’s decisions, even if they cannot comment on them.
