Palermo officer assaulted by inmate in Ucciardone prison

“A foreign detainee in the ninth section of the old Bourbon prison, Marshal Calogero Di Bona, former Ucciardone, for no apparent reason, attacked a service agent by throwing two stoves with gas canisters attached at him, used by detainees to heat and cook food. One of the stoves hit him in the knee.” The officer was then taken to the hospital.
This was reported by the national secretary of Cnpp, Maurizio Mezzatesta. “The assault took place in the ninth section, sadly known for the record of aggressions that have been recorded in recent years against the prison police personnel. The agents in the same section also saved a detainee who attempted to commit suicide,” continued the unionist. “For a long time, Cnpp has been demanding that the section in question be immediately closed, as it requires a total restructuring and currently houses detainees with various issues that create continuous critical events of all kinds; from aggression against personnel, to the devastation of overnight rooms, to self-harm, to fights among detainees.”
