Palermo: Conad and Todis supermarkets returned to Lucchese without mafia involvement

The supermarkets founded by Palermo entrepreneur Carmelo Lucchese have not received any contribution from mafia capital and have not been “infected” by Cosa Nostra: therefore, there are no grounds for confiscation. In the appeal, the outcome of the asset procedure resulting in the seizure of an empire estimated at 150 million between twelve Conad and Todis discount stores in the city and province, real estate, cars and trucks, bank accounts belonging to the company Gamac di Lucchese – assisted by lawyers Giovanni Di Benedetto, Rosanna Vella, Pierpaolo Dell’Anno and Giuseppe Murone – and his right-hand man Cosimo Di Petrillo, is overturned.

In the second instance, the prevention measures section of the Court of Appeal, chaired by Aldo De Negri, ordered the return of the assets stating that “it cannot be considered that the company Gamac has taken on the characteristics of a mafia enterprise in a technical sense, with the consequent compromise of its entire patrimony.”
