Palermo bids farewell to Gianni, the hermit of the sea: from his caravan, a rain of smiles at the southern pier.

Gaspare Giovanni Tuzzolino, known as Gianni, the hermit of the sea, has died at the age of 70. Gianni had been living in his decorated caravan for over 20 years, providing smiles and help to those who frequented the south pier of Palermo. After his separation from his wife, Gianni chose to live in his caravan surrounded by the love of his children, grandchildren, and siblings. His daughter, Jessica, expressed her deep loss and longing for him. Gianni’s presence was also appreciated by the Aquile Rosa Lilt of Palermo, who purchased a dragon boat thanks to a regional grant. Many people have taken to social media to remember Gianni and his kind personality.
