Palermitan killer of Messina couple sentenced to psychiatric clinic in England

22-year-old Andrea Cardinale, originally from Palermo, has been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in a psychiatric clinic. He confessed to killing the Sicilian couple, Nino CalabrĂ² and Francesca Di Dio, in England on December 22nd. Cardinale pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The judge described his actions as a manifestation of his paranoid schizophrenia, which is supported by his internet searches and general behavior. Cardinale attacked Nino with a bat, then chased Francesca, ultimately killing both of them. He attempted to set fire to the apartment but was unsuccessful.
