Occupation of Letters faculty in Palermo protesting Gaza war

A group of around fifty students occupied building 12 of the University in Palermo, the headquarters of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, before the university reform took place. This was announced by the students of the Department of Humanities, who during an afternoon assembly decided to protest against what they define as “a one-sided clash in the Gaza Strip”, “in support of the Palestinian people and to demand an immediate ceasefire”. “We believe – explains Giovanni Castronovo, a student of Arts – that we cannot remain indifferent in the face of the tragedy unfolding just a few hundred kilometers from us. We feel directly involved in the conflict and cannot accept the idea of turning a blind eye. In the coming days and weeks, it will be necessary to dedicate moments of debate and in-depth analysis on the war between Israel and Palestine in our university, involving not only the student community, but the entire academic community.”
