New lead in Altavilla massacre: Barreca a drug addict.

Investigators from the Ris have taken away some leftover food found in the villa in Altavilla Milicia where Antonella Salamone and her sons Kevin and Emanuel, aged 16 and 5, were killed in the culmination of a ritual that was supposed to free them from a hypothetical demonic possession. There is suspicion that Giovanni Barreca may have been drugged with some substance by Sabrina Fina and Massimo Carandente to induce him to commit the murders. He himself pointed the finger at his former friends, suggesting that he had been stunned and manipulated: he confessed to having accompanied them to the railway station after the massacre and then called the carabinieri to surrender. “I wasn’t myself, I was like in a daze. Sabrina and Massimo made me drink something,” he admitted to his lawyer Giancarlo Barracato – who will meet with his client again this morning – and to the two defense consultants, psychiatrist Alberto Caputo and criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, who were able to listen to him in recent days at the Pagliarelli prison.

A full report by Fabio Geraci in today’s edition of the Giornale di Sicilia in Palermo.
