Minor migrants attempt to escape from the Lampedusa hotspot, but are blocked by the police.

Earlier today, 11 Tunisian minors attempted to leave the Lampedusa hotspot, followed by three others. However, the police, who are constantly present at the Imbriacola area, were able to prevent their escape. Despite the recent increase in arrivals, the officers are committed to maintaining order and preventing any threat to public safety on the island.

The frustrations and protests of the local residents have heightened further after some of the Tunisian minors who had escaped damaged a car parked near Via Roma and attempted to steal a courier van. In response, the Prefect of Agrigento, Filippo Romano, has assured that all minor guests at the hotspot will be transferred by Wednesday and announced increased surveillance around the area.

Fourteen minors who attempted to escape this morning were quickly located and brought back to the facility within a few minutes. The questore (police chief) of Agrigento, Emanuele Ricifari, expressed gratitude for the support of law-abiding citizens and tourists who genuinely care about Lampedusa. He emphasized the commitment of the police and security forces to serve the community.

Ricifari acknowledged that criticism is a part of democracy and motivates efforts to restore and guarantee legality. He also mentioned the upcoming opening of a police station as a further enhancement of services to support the honest citizens living or vacationing on the beautiful island. However, he expressed surprise at the silence of many, including representatives of the local population, regarding recent arrests made by the carabinieri, involving 22 individuals implicated in drug trafficking. Many island residents continue to blame migrant trafficking for the problems Lampedusa faces and are critical of the “militarization” of the island.
