Migrants: Sciacca stadium becomes temporary reception center

The corridors and locker rooms of the municipal stadium in Sciacca have been transformed into a temporary reception center for about twenty North African migrants, who were farm laborers involved in the olive harvest. The Carabinieri transferred them to the sports facility after dismantling the illegal tent city in Caltabellotta where they had settled in recent months, and where the murder of a 28-year-old Moroccan man had occurred. The migrants are not in compliance with residence permits, and the Agrigento police are working on repatriation operations. The temporary accommodation in the stadium is being organized in collaboration with the municipality’s Civil Protection personnel and is currently being monitored by the police and Carabinieri.
