Mazara, nearly 10 tons of swordfish seized

The Coast Guard of Mazara del Vallo has seized 125 frozen swordfish specimens without traceability on board a refrigerated truck coming from Spain. The report was made by the port operational intervention unit of the Palermo maritime directorate, which identified a suspicious truck landed in Palermo and headed to Mazara del Vallo. The swordfish specimens were decapitated, gutted, and lacking the necessary documentation required by current European and national regulations. Part of the inspected fish, totaling about 9.5 tonnes, was subjected to administrative seizure and the offender was fined 1,500 euros. The seized fish, after Asp verification, was destined for the West Sicily Food Bank.
