Mayor of Lipari reconsidering resignation, may withdraw decision

The mayor of Lipari, Riccardo Gullo, has been invited to “withdraw his resignation to save the Municipality and above all the Aeolian Archipelago” and the mayor will consider it. A crowded assembly was held in the conference room of the Gattopardo with supporters, sympathizers, and citizens for a public discussion on the administrative situation of the Municipality and the council. Among the proposals made in the various interventions, it was also requested to postpone the resignations until after the summer, considering that the tourist season is approaching and it is also necessary to take into account the emergencies concerning the two craters of Stromboli and Vulcano and Gullo is also commissioner. By Tuesday, March 26, Gullo will decide whether to withdraw his resignation or not.

In the meantime, he has already started meetings for clarifications with two of the four “dissenting” majority councilors: former councilor Lucy Iacono, who remained a councilor, and Gaetano Saltalamacchia who, after being elected on the center-left list Rinascita Eoliana, moved to Forza Italia becoming group leader, causing the council numbers to be upset. Tomorrow, Monday, March 18, at 9:30 am, the city council convened by President Nuccio Russo, specifically on Gullo’s resignation and therefore a further council verification. If the mayor confirms his resignation, it is already certain that the citizens of the largest Aeolian municipality will vote on June 8 and 9 to elect the mayor and the 16 councilors.
