Marsala: storm washes away part of southern waterfront

The gradual erosion of the sea, its rise, and the storms caused the collapse of a section of the provincial road 84 leading from the center of Marsala to the beaches on the south side. Signs of the asphalt collapsing had been noticed a month ago, leading to the immediate closure of the road. The situation has worsened, with almost half a lane collapsing in just four weeks. The mayor of Marsala has raised the issue with the competent authorities, attributing the damage to the road to storms and poor construction work. The advancing sea has also led to the erosion of coastal areas close to the city. The most critical situation is between the church of San Giovanni and the archaeological museum of Baglio Anselmi, where the soil next to the sidewalk has collapsed into the water. The advancing sea has also affected a casemate from the Second World War, which was once on land and is now 30 meters from the shore. The erosion of the waves has also affected the coastline near the city.
