Man arrested in Palermo for printing fake money, documents, and possessing weapons

The Carabinieri of the Palermo Piazza Verdi company have arrested a 44-year-old man from Palermo, already known to the authorities, believed to be responsible for clandestine possession of weapons, counterfeiting of coins, spending and introduction of counterfeit money into the state, as well as possession and manufacture of counterfeit identification documents.

The operation was carried out by the military of the Acqua dei Corsari and Brancaccio stations, with the support of a unit of the Palermo-Villagrazia canine unit, who searched the suspect’s apartment in the Ciaculli district and found him in possession of three modified revolvers, two of which without serial numbers, as well as nearly 80 cartridges of different calibers.

The search also led to the discovery of a real clandestine printing press set up inside the man’s premises, equipped with computers, sophisticated printers, and matrices useful for the illicit production not only of money but also of identity documents, driving licenses, and tax codes.

During the search, over 50,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes of various denominations were recovered and seized, as well as several counterfeit identification documents.

The suspect, at the prosecutor’s request, was transferred to the Lorusso-Pagliarelli prison pending a validation hearing.

The arrest was validated by the Preliminary Investigation Judge of the Palermo Court.
