Man arrested in Catania for assaulting partner to extort money
In Catania, a thirty-year-old man was arrested for mistreating his cohabitant. The man is being investigated for domestic violence, extortion, and aggravated personal injuries. The carabinieri of the Librino station carried out the order signed by the Gip of the Etna Tribunal.
The investigations, coordinated by a team of experienced magistrates, shed light on the repeated abusive behaviors of the suspect towards his 27-year-old cohabitant, from 2023 until last March.
The victim, subjected to months of mistreatment, serious personal injuries, and extortion by her cohabitant, was living in a deteriorated family relationship due to the suspect’s excessive drug consumption. He took advantage of the domestic context and his greater physical strength to force the woman to give him money to buy crack, even using threats of death and violence.
The unfortunate woman was heavily insulted and threatened by her partner: “I will kill you with my own hands, I will take you to the countryside and kill you, I will stab you in the head if you speak again,” to force her to hand over the money, she endured punches on the thighs and hair-pulling from the man on multiple occasions.
On February 8th, while the two were in the car, when the 27-year-old asked for the return of a sum of money she had lent him, the 30-year-old, instead of responding, stopped the car, opened the door, and violently pulled her out of the vehicle. After slapping her, he kicked her in the nose before taking her to her parents’ house while she was bleeding from the nose.
Even in March, after the woman asked her partner to get out of bed late in the morning, he reacted by throwing a tennis racket at her head, causing a bump on her head. Finally, on the night between March 29th and 30th, when the victim refused to give him the money requested to buy drugs, she attempted to call emergency services, but he took her phone and broke it.
The woman, exhausted by the constant demands for money, had also mentioned several times to the man that he had wasted all their savings to buy drugs. On one of these occasions, also at the end of March, the 30-year-old suddenly struck her with slaps on the face and punches to the head.
